Last weekend, a team of G2iX employees participated in a fun run called "Come Run with M.E". This event was organized by the Ateneo de Manila University Management Engineering (ME) alumni community to celebrate the program's 40th year. I'm sharing some race photos below ...

For this post, I wanted to share the story of "Run Fat Boy Run" -- a movie that I had watched prior to the race. I was going to deliver it as part of a speech (during the awarding session), but never got the chance to. Anyway, the movie opens with a soon-to-be-married Dennis (Simon Pegg) literally running away from his wedding. The movie fast forwards to 5 years later, where we find Dennis working as a security guard in a lingerie boutique shop -- and he's still running, this time though to catch a shoplifter. He's now a bit overweight; still smokes a lot. He lives in a dingy apartment; doesn't pay rent. He always forgets his keys to his apartment -- really, he's messed up. One time, he goes to visit his son Jake (yes, he has one and his intended wife Libby -- the beautiful Thandee Newton, allows him such rights) and he meets Whit (Hank Azaria), the other guy. Predictably, Dennis feels jealous and decides to join an upcoming marathon (same marathon that Whit is joining) to get back Libby.
Dennis then starts to train with the help of friends. But then, day prior to the marathon -- he quits and says he won't be running anymore after Libby said "yes" to Whit's marriage proposal... You know what changed his mind? Jake. Jake ran away the same day because his so-called girlfriend was dating someone else. That's when Dennis told him, "You shouldn't run when you're faced with such problems. You've got to face it and deal with it," or something like that.
And so he ran. He ran side by side with Whit, who mischievously tripped him Ooooh! That's not the end of the story, of course. He manages to stand up and starts to "run" even with an injured ankle, and he finishes the race! And he gets back with Libby. And they lived happily ever after.
I believe that running is a very mentally-challenging game. It needs discipline, passion, determination, and perseverance, and a lot of stamina. (These are words from the movie, too.) If you've got such, then nothing is IMPOSSIBLE. Really. (I just hope that PGMA doesn't take this phrase to heart.)
