In 2010, Three Horizons Spell Growth

Poised for growth in 2010?  Keep three horizons within your sights.

It is already a psychological victory for companies to be able to leave 2009 pretty much functioning and slightly unscathed.  Considering the doomsday predictions back early of last year, 2010 is a whiff of fresh air and optimism that the worst has passed and that new opportunities beckon.

And for the rare few that not only survived but found ways to thrive, it's time to zero in on that thing we refer to as 'growth'.  [For the others that we're not so lucky, let the cliché 'charge to learning experience' offer solace because invariably, that too, if the lessons are taken to head and heart, will also lead to - growth.]

Steve Cooley of McKinsey offers an interesting take - via interactive presentation, for sustaining growth for companies wrestling with inertia after a period of innovation.

In order to achieve consistent levels of growth throughout their corporate lifetimes, companies must attend to existing businesses while still considering areas they can grow in the future. The three horizons framework—featured in The Alchemy of Growth,—provides a structure for companies to assess potential opportunities for growth without neglecting performance in the present.

Happy New Year and wishing everyone renewed drive for both personal and business success!
